According to a Googler, the security fix included in Android 4.4.4 is related to CVE-2014-0224, which is an OpenSSL bug allowing a man-in-the-middle attack, which is a fairly serious vulnerability.
Google has made the factory images of Android 4.4.4 for all the Nexus devices available on their developers portal. OTA updates, however, are not yet available on all the Nexus devices. Please note that flashing a factory image in not a user friendly way to update to latest firmware as it wipes all the user data, you’ll have to unlock bootloader, setup adb & fastboot, and install adb drivers for your device.
